A Season of Faith, Service, and Celebration at Sacred Heart/Sacré Coeur

Jan 12, 2026 | Good News, Holy Family Catholic School Division

December was a joyful and faith-filled month at Sacred Heart/Sacré Coeur as students, staff, and families came together to celebrate Advent, serve others, and grow in their faith.

The season began with the celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas with a school Mass on December 6, hosted by the Grade 6 students. Following Mass, the school community gathered for the much-anticipated annual Christmas Dinner. This cherished tradition was made possible through the generosity and dedication of the Catholic School Community Council, who organize and serve the meal each year. Their service embodies the spirit of community and hospitality, making this an event that students and staff look forward to every December.

Faith formation remained at the heart of the Advent journey. Grade 2 students celebrated the Sacrament of First Reconciliation, marking an important milestone in their faith lives. Meanwhile, the remainder of the school participated in Reconciliation with Father Thuy and visiting priests. This sacred experience allowed students to reflect, pray, and reconnect with their faith, reinforcing the importance of forgiveness and God’s mercy during the Advent season.

The school community also demonstrated the true meaning of almsgiving through several acts of generosity. Students and staff supported the Angel Tree initiative by “Packing the Cruiser” with donated toys and held fundraisers to purchase two Christmas hampers for local families in need. Additionally, students generously donated new pajamas to support the Kinsmen and Kinettes. These efforts reflected a shared commitment to serving others and living out Christ’s call to love one’s neighbour.

Families were welcomed into the school for a special evening of Polar Express activities, culminating in a movie night. This event provided a wonderful opportunity for families to gather, connect, and share in the excitement of the season. Seeing students engage in activities alongside their families outside of school hours served as a meaningful reminder of the strong partnership between home, school, and the faith community.

The year concluded with the community coming together for a Caroling Concert on the final day before the Christmas break. Parents, students, and staff joined voices in song, sharing carols, hot chocolate, and cookies as they joyfully headed into the holiday season. It was a fitting way to end 2025, united in faith, gratitude, and community.
