Celebrating Literacy and November’s Favourite Reads
At the Lloydminster Catholic School Division, we believe books don’t just teach — they build. Every time a student cracks open a story, they’re strengthening connections, expanding vocabulary, and growing a lifelong love of learning. From imaginative picture books to gripping chapter adventures, literacy is one of the strongest tools we give our students to help them thrive academically, socially, and spiritually!
This November, our classrooms have been buzzing with page-turning excitement! Each of our six LCSD schools shared their most-loved books of NOVEMBER — and the choices reflect the incredible curiosity and creativity of our students.
Ecole St. Thomas – Courage by Raina Telgemeier
A school filled with adventurers chose a story that brings friendship, courage, and big imagination to life.
St. Joseph Elementary School – Creepy Carrots! by Aaron Reynolds
Our youngest readers loved this heartwarming tale that celebrates kindness and wonder.
St. Mary’s Elementary School – Haunted Canada 12 by Joel A. Sutherland
A class-favourite read-aloud that had everyone laughing, predicting, and begging for “one more chapter!”
Mother Teresa Early Childhood Education Center – The Pigeon Needs a Bath by Mo Willems
This inspiring selection reminded students that every challenge can be overcome with faith and perseverance.
Holy Rosary High School – The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by Jo Boyne
Father Gorman Community School – Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel by Jeff Kinney
These favourites are a joyful reminder of how stories spark curiosity, teach, build confidence, and strengthen the minds and hearts of learners in LCSD.
Also we share the wonderful statistic that in October nearly 550 NEW books were added to our libraries. WOW!
Let’s keep turning pages, sharing stories, and celebrating the beautiful ways literacy lifts our students to greatness. Because at LCSD, books don’t just fill shelves — they build brains!
