The Regina Catholic School Division is committed to providing school environments that are safe, caring, and accepting places for students, staff, and community members.
In 2017, our school division, along with eight community partners, formed the Regina Human Service Partnership. All members signed a commitment to a Community Threat Assessment & Support Protocol. In 2020, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, and the University of Regina also signed onto the Protocol.
The Protocol enables partners to respond collaboratively to student behaviours that pose a potential risk to school safety and to the health and well-being of other students, staff, and members of the community. Partner agencies may proactively share information and use their broad range of expertise to provide appropriate supports to our children/youth and their families. Early intervention measures taken by the school division and its Protocol partners are a cornerstone in preventing school violence. They help ensure we provide appropriate responses and support should an incident occur.
Each school in the Regina Catholic School Division has a multidisciplinary threat/risk assessment team who work within the Protocol. During a threat/risk assessment, all parties are asked to engage in the threat/risk assessment process. If there is a reluctance to participate in the process by the threat-maker(s) and/or parent(s)/guardian(s), the threat assessment process will continue. Our priority is a safe and caring environment for all. Information shared throughout the threat/risk assessment process will respect the individual’s rights to privacy and the safety of all to the fullest extent possible. Your school principal will be pleased to answer any questions you may have about this process.
We look forward to working with you, and with our Protocol partner agencies, to provide safe, accepting, and caring schools.
