We begin our prayer in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Today is the feast of St. Marie of the Incarnation/St. Marie de l ’Incarnation. The Teresa of New France.
As part of a group of nuns sent to New France/Canada to establish the Ursuline Order, Marie was crucial in the spread of Catholicism in New France/Quebec, Canada. She has been credited with founding the first girls’ school in the New World. Due to her work, the Catholic Church declared her a saint, and the Anglican Church of Canada celebrates her with a feast day. The Ursulines sisters have been very important in the life Catholic schools in Saskatchewan!
Here is a little insight into who Marie is:
Looking back on her life from earliest childhood, Marie Guyart recognized, “God never led me by a spirit of fear, but by love and trust.” From her earliest days she found she had a tendency to respond to the good and a keen desire to respond to God’s love and make him known. Even as a young girl she was compassionate toward the poor and wanted to give away everything she had. “I cannot say how much I loved them. I felt a deep resentment toward those who refused to be generous.”
It was said of her that she had been born to be giving. Almost all her life, she was busy with multiple tasks. She lived her relationship with God through actions. She wrote, “…worries never diverted my attention from God who was my constant preoccupation. On the contrary, I was strengthened because everything I did was in a spirit of charity and not for my personal profit.”
Let us pray:
May the Spirit of the Resurrection in this Easter season
Open our hearts to seek the good of others
And not simply our own personal profit.
And we join our prayers to Marie’s:
It is by the heart of my dear Jesus,
my way, my truth and my life,
that I approach you, O eternal Father.
… In spirit I go around the world
seeking the souls redeemed by the most precious blood
of my Divine Spouse (Jesus),
in order to make amends for them by this divine Heart.
I kiss them to present them to you through him,
and through him I ask you for their conversion. …
Ah, let them live by the divine Heart.
Lord help us to bring others to your love in our word and in our actions – we ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
We close by praying:
Glory be to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
