On Monday, September 22, 2026, Grade 8 students from St. Anne School marked the International Day for Peace (celebrated Sept. 21) with their annual Nobel Peace Laureate Brick Celebration at Rotary Park Peace Plaza.

Partners from the Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club and Meewasin Valley Authority joined representatives from the school division to hear what Ms. Johanssen’s Grade 8 class learned about this year’s brick dedication recipient, Jimmy Carter.

Carter, the 39th president of the Unites States of America, received the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”

Led by student emcee Zoria Gabruch, the ceremony featured a land acknowledgment and prayer. Students Elliot Krushel, Daniil Pysmennyi and Mya Pilon presented a tribute highlighting Carter’s legacy of working to resolve international conflicts, strengthen democratic institutions and support human rights around the world. Carter emphasized that peace is more than the absence of war. He described it as a condition created when human rights are upheld, basic needs are met and people are treated with dignity and respect.

Remarks from St. Anne School principal Kris Hanson, Greater Saskatoon Board of Education chair Diane Boyko, Saskatoon Nutana Rotary president Karol Komar, and Meewasin Valley Authority’s manager of marketing and fund development Emily Sweeney all touched on our collective and personal responsibility to be stewards of the gifts we are given to make the world a better place for all.
