Our Patron Saint – Regina Catholic Schools

Jul 15, 2026 | Regina Catholic School Division

This is an important story to tell because a patron saint is more than a name on a wall. It is a reminder of who we are, what we value, and who we look to as we grow in faith, learning, and service.

Holy Mary, Mother of God

Every great story needs a guide.

For Regina Catholic Schools, that guide is Holy Mary, Mother of God.

But Mary didn’t become the patron saint of the for our Catholic Education Centre and division staff because someone picked her name out of a hat. Her selection came from the voices of our community. Staff, students, families, and Catholic partners shared their thoughts, prayers, and suggestions, helping choose a patron saint who reflects the heart of our division.

So why Mary?

Because she’s both extraordinary and relatable.

She was a young person when God invited her into something bigger than herself. She didn’t have all the answers. She didn’t know exactly what the future would hold. Yet she said “yes” with courage, trust, and faith.

That’s a message that still speaks to us today.

Every day, we face new challenges, opportunities, questions, and decisions. Like Mary, we’re discovering our gifts, growing in confidence, and learning new ways to make a difference in the world around them.

Mary’s example reminds us that faith isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being willing. It’s about listening, learning, caring for others, and stepping forward with hope.

At Regina Catholic Schools, we see those qualities every day. We see them in students who help a classmate, in staff who nurture both hearts and minds, in families who support learning, and in communities that come together to serve others. Mary is a symbol of welcome, compassion, wisdom, and trust in God.

If Mary were visiting one of our schools today, she would probably feel right at home among young people asking big questions, caring for their neighbours, discovering their strengths, and finding ways to shine their light in the world.

Not bad for a guide whose story began more than 2,000 years ago.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
