We at Light of Christ Schools are very blessed to have our beautiful chapel at John Paul II Collegiate. This sacred space is a place where students and staff can experience tranquility, spend time with Jesus, and strengthen their faith.
We are excited to share that the chapel recently had some updates. Thanks to three private donors, we have been able to update our sacred space and bring it into the liturgical norms required for the weekly faith events that occur over the noon hours. In the planning stages of the updates, students were asked for their input on what they thought should be done. One of the requests by students was to ensure that the updates reflect the strong traditions of the church. They said, “We want it to continue to look and feel like a church!”
Some of the updates include a new storage area, new lighting, new carpet, the rearrangement of the tabernacle, and a new large crucifix, all of which contribute to making it an even more peaceful and comfortable sacred space.
We now also have a monstrance for Adoration, proper sacred vessels, and all that is needed to have a fully functional chapel offering a wide variety of devotions and of course the sacrifice of the Mass.
The chapel is alive during the noon hours with weekly scheduled activities. Every week students are offered a time of adoration, praying the rosary, and of course the celebration of the Mass. It is common to see many students and staff participating in these sacred events each week and the number of those attending continues to grow, regardless of their faith background.
Our chapel is a quiet space that promotes reflection and a relationship with Christ, which has been very beneficial to many. The chapel has always, but even more so now, been drawing students in who appreciate the beauty, tradition, and feeling our chapel offers. Fr. Greg, our clerical chaplain, and the entire staff of John Paul II Collegiate are the reason the faith life of students, and the staff, continues to flourish, even in unexpected ways.
