It is no surprise that the celebrating of Christmas needs to begin during Advent in our elementary schools. Come Friday, December 22, the schools will close for the Christmas break sending all students and staff home to enjoy time with family and friends celebrating the birth of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Annually, during the first week of Advent, the students and staff of Sacred Heart/Sacré Coeur join together for a wonderful Mass experience and a Christmas feast of turkey and all the trimmings. The Mass was made beautiful not only by the singing and reading shared by the students but also the engaging homily provided by Fr. Thuy. This year, he opted to make the message about our Advent experience and the coming Christmas season an interactive presentation that involved students responding to multiple choice questions to win tickets for a prize draw taking place at Christmas masses in the parish. He sure had the students listening well and participating joyfully!
Immediately following the Mass – and a bus ride back to the school – all joined together in the gymnasium that had been transformed into a banquet hall complete table centerpieces and dessert at each place setting. Through the busy hands of student and adult volunteers, each and every participant was treated to a delicious – and entertaining – Christmas dinner event. Merry Christmas to All!
